I’ve had a bit of Down Time

I know I know. It happened again but there’s a reason I promise!

So it’s been a week or so since my last post was posted. My mac mini decided it was going to throw a fit and died on us. So I’ve spent the last week moving everything around. Then, when I finally thought I’d got it all sorted I had an error pop up on WordPress stopping me from saving any posts. I finally got that sorted and my Nas decided that it too would stop working after a firmware update.

So, let’s start at the beginning. On Monday last week, my mac mini decided that it was time for the Open Media Vault install to stop working. This crashed all of my home lab, media server and smart home stuff. Having just moved away from Home Assistant to Homebridge & Scrypted this was great timing on the part of my mac. So I spent half of last week moving what I could over to my Oracle Cloud account, after backing up my website and getting rid of all my instances and setting up a new separate instance for my website and the rest of my available instances to replace my home lab stuff.

When that was all sorted I thought that was sorted I’ll write a post to let folks know why my previously scheduled posts hadn’t gone up only to find that WordPress has taken my backup, deleted by unpublished posts and then wouldn’t let me actually save any posts. Turns out that I’d set something up wrong, still not entirely sure what that thing was but eventually got that all sorted after 2 or 3 attempts and a day’s work.

Finally, I thought I can spend the weekend relaxing. Nope! My NAS decided that it was going to do one final firmware update as Western Digital no longer supports the online features of the NAS. Of course, this did not go as planned. Thankfully I’ve managed to back up everything important to USB Hard Drives. So I’m now just waiting to get my hands on a 3.5″ Hard drive dock so I can connect it to my laptop, slap Ubuntu or OMV on it a put it back in the NAS to have that all up and running again.

But I suppose the good news is that I managed to get almost everything sorted out by Saturday evening. So hopefully I’ll actually get to enjoy my Sunday.

Well, that’s the reason for there not being any posts over the last week and there may not be any for the rest of this week as it seems my week has decided to fill up quite quickly due to some DIY that went a bit wrong. but I’ll cover that in another post soon.
