I’m planning some more DIY
Well.. Once I’ve put the bathroom floor down
So todays actually the day that I put the bathroom floor down. I planned on doing it yesterday but turns out Abi had other plans. As I mentioned before it shouldn’t be too difficult a job except for cutting out around the sink and toilet.
Whilst I had some time on my hand yesterday I, think I, finalised the plans I’ve had for a while of my DIY glass topped desk. When we first moved into our current flat we were on a very low furniture budget and starting from scratch. We popped into our local charity shops (Real Aid & Christ Church Hub) and come out with a fully furnished flat for around £300.
Since then though we have moved the TV so it above the fireplace and I’m left with a glass TV unit that is just begging me to put it to good use. As you can see from the picture above its a fairly decent size and I won’t have to try and drill any holes into it to mount it to the support structure or for cable runs (there is a half moon dip at the back of each bit of glass exactly for this reason.
My plan is to create two wooden support frames that will attach to the wall and support the glass. Due to the weight of all that glass and wood, I’m planning on having the wall support continue down to the floor to stop the wall between the office and our bedroom collapsing me.
It’s a simple design, even if it not the most elegant. I actually took the idea from when a friend and I had a garage together. While the benches in the garage had front legs too, to help take the weight of engines and what not, I won’t be putting loads any where near as big on this desk.
What do you think of my next DIY Project? What changes should I make? Let me know in the comments bellow.
