We Went Car Shopping
If you remember, we’ve been on the lookout for a new car, and for a couple of very good reasons. Our trusty Qashqai, while beloved, has started feeling a bit snug for our growing family. Plus, the maintenance costs have begun to weigh us down. After the recent MOT, the repair list was daunting and frankly, beyond our budget. We did some quick math and realized that investing in a new car made more sense financially.
So, these past few weeks have been a whirlwind of test drives and car dealership visits all across East Riding. The search officially hit overdrive mode! And yesterday, we finally found our perfect match. We are now the ecstatic owners of a 2015 (pre-Facelift) Honda CR-V SE. 🎉
You might wonder why we chose the CR-V over options like the X3, Freelander, CX5, RAV4, or Tiguan. The answer is simple—size and space. After checking out all the contenders, we found that apart from the more expensive Tiguan, none could beat the CR-V in boot space. Plus, according to the reviews we read, the CR-V is an all-rounder. It may not be an off-road beast, but it handles everyday and winter conditions like a champ. That’s precisely what we need for our urban adventures, weekly trips to Hull, and our occasional drives to Cheltenham or Ayr.
The features of this car are just blowing my mind. For instance, there’s this magical lever in the boot. Pull it, and the back seats fold, lifting the seat base to create extra room so the seat back can lie nearly flat. This is a game-changer for us, especially with our bulky 360-spin ISOFIX car seats. We even have an extra set of ISOFIX fittings in the middle seat for future use!
While I was a bit bummed about the basic stereo system, that’s something we can upgrade down the road. In the meantime, I’m exploring a DAB converter to expand our listening options. When we do upgrade, it’ll be something with DAB, CarPlay, and Android Auto for sure. Fitting our own antenna should be a fun little project!
Overall, I couldn’t be happier with our new car. I can’t wait to take it on some long journeys and really put it through its paces.
Sorry for the brief update this week—it’s been a busy one with the car hunt. But I promise, regular posts will be back soon!
Cheers to new adventures with our New-To-Us CR-V!
