Guess who’s Made a New Kit List?
So a few weeks back Blackmagic Design released a couple of interesting products. One of those is now firmly attached to the top of my AV Wishlist. It’s the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO. This little beauty not only gives you the ability to record each of the inputs as well as the program feed as well as giving you a DaVinci Resolve file so you can edit everything you have done with little to no effort. But they have also added an extra 4 channels to the original as well as more down stream keys and SUPER SOURCE!!!! This is something you only see in their higher end switcher.
So of course I did what I usually do, I went and made a new kit list and took it a little further this time after watching some amazing videos from Aaron Parecki, Doug Johnson & Here To Record. This time I’ve added a few extras that should make life a little easier should I eventually get the money together to buy all of this amazing gear.
Let’s start with Kit List itself. It’s largely the same as my previous lists but with a few add-ons such as the Smart Video Hub 20×20, a boat load of Micro SDI to HDMI (and HDMI to SDI) Converters as well as 2 M1 Mac minis. Once I’m a bit more comfortable playing with API and other such things I may even add a stream deck to created a custom interface for patching feeds on the fly using the Smart Video Hub.
So here’s the Kit List:
There are a couple of big changes from previous Kit Lists. The first is the form factor. I’ve gone for a a Workstation Flight Case rather than a small flight case as before. The main reason for this is that I wanted an all in one solution… I didn’t quite manage it as the Tripods and Cable Reels don’t fit but everything else will fit into the flight case. This’ll make moving from place to place a hell of a lot easier.
Next up is the Camera. I went for the New(wish) Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro paired with the Camera grip Pro, boosted storage with the Samsung T7 Touch Portable 2TB SSD and 100m Optical HDMI Cables. The Main reason for the upgrade is so that I can crop further in the edit after Events and still export in 4K.
My Dante Setup is still here, and will stay until Blackmagic, hopefully, add Dante into the switchers. Pretty Much everything else in the rack is the same too except the 2 Mac minis one is to provide Live Lower thirds whilst the other is for video playback, each can also act as a backup to the other too so if one Mac mini goes down during an even then the show can still go on.
Whilst £42,000+ is a lot of money for what your getting I think this is a really good price. This setup also leaves you some room for expansion. For example, if you find that you need to upgrade the one of the larger rack mounted ATEM units you can just pop it in the rack and away you go.
Now if only I had they money to put all this together… On day it might happen… One Day.
