It Looks Like I’ll be Starting the Bathroom Floor Tomorrow

I Must Have Done Something Bad In A Past Life

After a few days of trying and failing miserably, I finally managed to make it to B&Q to get the bit’s I’ll need to do the bathroom floor. I only bought two packs of laminate, a pack of insulation, a couple of blades for the jigsaw and an extension reel and it all came to around £150. I’m beginning to think I should open a DIY shop, I could be raking the money in.

There was one other fly in the ointment though, B&Q no longer sell the laminate that I still have two packs of from when I did the Kitchen and Hallway. I’ve gone with a slightly different colour for the other two packs and I plan to alternate what I put down and get a simple pattern on the floor. I’ll see what it looks like when I get started and make a decision then.

I’m really not looking forward to laminating the bathroom though. The Kitchen and Hall were simple enough as they were basically square. The problem I have with the bathroom is cutting in around the sink and toilet. Whilst I have used a jigsaw before it’s not my favourite tool and I tend to accidentally snap blades.

For the rest of today though, I’m going to try and convince Abi to let me buy some smart plugs that I’ve found on Amazon. The great thing about these is that I can flash the firmware with Tuya Convert and be able to control them over MQTT, making them an easy integration into Home Assistant. Well, that’s what I’ve been told anyway. I’m looking forward to experimenting with Home assistant properly, rather than just attaching my already HomeKit enabled Hue bulbs.

I’ll let you know in a future post if I manage it or not. What DIY projects have you put off? Any tips for using a jigsaw? can you suggest and smart home products that I can control with MQTT? Let me know in the comments below.
