Isolation Day 60: 2 Months in Lockdown

Hopefully, The End Is In Sight

Well, it’s been 60 days since we went into lockdown here at Hope House, well flat really but it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue. I finally managed to get the hall floor finished. I’ve designed a Hackintosh (at least 3 times), redesigned the house (twice), thought about buying a load of stuff that I can’t afford, lost a job and gained another (that I still can’t start).

There have been three big things that have kept me going over the last two months and stopped me from going on a rampage in our sleepy part of Bridlington. The first is my wife, Abi. She has been by my side throughout and it’s been really nice to just sit back and chill out with her whilst we put the world to rights, figure out of future together or hunt for our dream house online (it always ends up being complexly unaffordable but so are most of my dreams).

Secondly, and quite seriously, Fortnite. It may be a game full of 12-year-olds having a pop at each other but it has stopped us from going barmy. Having something to do together really is great when you are shut indoors. If you’re not into the whole 100 people go in and 1 person leaves side of Fortnite give Save The World a try. It’s a bit more relaxed and more like a normal 1st person shooter (my only problem with it is that you can’t play it offline).

And finally, setting this blog. As weird as it sounds giving myself a daily schedule to research and create a post or two for this blog has really help me keep my head. At times it does seem like a lot of work for nothing as not many people visit (unless a post has the word free in the title) but I enjoy it all the same. It has given me the opportunity to try new things and encourage me to share them with other people.

I’m actually at the point now where I’m a few days ahead in my posts (that’s why this post isn’t a breakdown of yesterdays Demo-2 launch) and it feels great to have taken the pressure off myself and it actually makes it more enjoyable. If you’d told me I’d say that whilst I was writing my dissertation then I might have slapped you, but it is true.

While I don’t wish this lockdown would go on indefinitely, I think we would all go mad, It has been nice having the time to do things about the house, learn something new or prepare for the future. At times I have wished that we had enough money to see us through the rest of our lives so we can continue living in this little world of ours. but, I really miss going and seeing friends and family, going to work or just having a wander around the town.

So hopefully soon lockdown will be over and we can get to the new normal that our lives will be for the next year or two. It probably won’t be easy but nothing ever is.
