Isolation Day 10: Online Events Idea

After writing my post yesterday about a YouTube multi view for live streams I had another idea. Well I’ve had it for a little while now but I remembered it. Wouldn’t it be great that if you couldn’t make it to an event in person, if your I’ll or, like I am now, in self isolation due to a worldwide pandemic.

Now I know this is possible if the event organiser decides to live stream it but this never really happens. The main reason for this is that the event organiser will loose out on ticket sales. but what if the was a solution to this. What if you could take your ticket details, pop them into a website and watch a live stream. The event organiser would still get their money and you would be able to watch it from the comfort of your living room.

From a technical standpoint this is all possible. Using software such as Wowza Media Server as a streaming backend on say Amazon Web Services linked to a WordPress website with a paywall / ticket gateway. The only thing left to do would be to get event organiser on board. Probably the easiest way to do this is to convince them that can make an even bigger profit in the long run by having online tickets.

In times like these I know I’d live to watch a concert or two over the next few weeks. If we could take my YouTube Multi View Idea and combine it with the 4K NDI camera setup idea, I posted a few days ago, and a VPN you could even operate it all from a different location by including cameras controls in the multi view interface. the only tech team you would really need is a sound engineer at the location, though I suppose with the right gear you could probably do this remotely too.

What do you think? Would you watch an event online? Would you prefer it to going to the event itself? Let me know in the comments bellow.
