Unveiling Some Kind of Intelligence: A Tale of AI, Music, and Unexpected Adventures

Hey there, folks! So, I’ve got a bit of a story for you—a journey, really—that I think you’ll get a kick out of. It all started with a simple experiment and spiralled into something I never quite expected. So, grab a cuppa, get comfy, and let me tell you how I ended up releasing an EP that’s now live on Spotify.

It All Began with a Curious Experiment

You know those moments when you start tinkering with something just for fun, and before you know it, you’re neck-deep in a full-blown project? That’s pretty much what happened here. I was playing around with Suno AI, curious about what it could do in terms of music creation. Next thing I know, I discover I can input my own lyrics and set my own styles. Game changer.

Chasing the Eurovision Dream

Being the ambitious (or maybe just slightly delusional) person I am, I thought, “Why not try to create a song that could help the UK win Eurovision?”—because, hey, it’s been a while since we’ve clinched that title, right?

So, I enlisted the help of Copilot and asked it to analyze the lyrics of the past five Eurovision winners. After crunching the data, it spat out some lyrics that were, dare I say, not half bad. I took those lyrics, fed them into Suno, and asked it to whip up a pop, dance, anthemic, and theatrical track. Hit the button and waited like a kid on Christmas morning.

When I hit play, I was stunned. It was catchy, it was energetic—it had that over-the-top Eurovision flair. I couldn’t believe that this little experiment had actually produced something… good!

The Rubber Duck Revelation

Riding that high, I decided to push the envelope a bit. I thought, “What if I asked Copilot to write lyrics about something completely ridiculous?” So, naturally, I went with a man falling in love with a rubber duck. Because why not?

Suno turned those absurd lyrics into an absolute banger of a dance track. I played it for my wife, bracing myself for a groan or an eye roll. Instead, she burst out laughing and said, “This is brilliant!” She was so taken with it that she wanted to get involved.

Fast forward a few days, and we had several tracks under our belt. A friend of ours listened to them and said, “You have to put these on Spotify!” So, after a bit of back and forth, we decided, “What the heck, let’s do it!” And that’s how Some Kind of Intelligence was born.

Diving into ‘The Singularity Suite’

So, here’s where things get even more interesting. With the momentum from the EP, I thought to myself, “Why stop here?” Enter The Singularity Suite—a full-on concept album that takes a deep dive into the rise of artificial intelligence.

This album is a sonic journey that explores AI’s trajectory from its humble beginnings to, well, let’s just say its more dramatic developments. It kicks off with the subtle whispers of algorithms enhancing our daily lives—you know, those little conveniences like your phone predicting where you’re headed before you’ve even had your morning coffee.

As the album progresses, the music evolves, reflecting how AI becomes increasingly intertwined with humanity. There are tracks that capture the excitement and buzz of new technology, the kind that makes you marvel at how far we’ve come since dial-up internet tones haunted our homes.

But it’s not all smooth sailing. As we delve deeper, themes of dependency and ethical dilemmas bubble to the surface. The lines between human intuition and machine precision blur, raising questions like, “Who’s really in control here?” and “Did I choose this movie, or did Netflix’s algorithm subtly guide me toward it?”

An Exploration of Possibilities

Creating The Singularity Suite was both exhilarating and, I’ll admit, a bit surreal. There I was, using AI to craft an album about the rise (and potential overreach) of AI. Talk about getting meta! It was fascinating to see how Copilot could help shape the narrative, and then watch as Suno transformed that narrative into music that felt both familiar and otherworldly.

The album doesn’t just dwell on the ominous, though. It also highlights the incredible possibilities that AI presents—the advancements in communication, medicine, and even the arts (case in point!). It’s a reflection on our relationship with technology: the good, the bad, and the downright confusing.

Why It Matters (and Why You Might Care)

At its core, The Singularity Suite is a thought experiment set to music. It’s me pondering where we’re headed with all this tech and inviting you to ponder along with me. Plus, let’s be honest, it’s a great excuse to mix some killer beats with big ideas. If nothing else, it’s a conversation starter—or at least something to listen to while you question whether your smart fridge is judging your snack choices.

In case you’re picturing a dystopian soundtrack that’ll make you want to hide your gadgets, fear not! While the album does tackle some heavy themes, it’s also infused with energy, curiosity, and maybe a wink or two. After all, isn’t it better to face the unknown with a bit of humor?

Making Music for My Little One

Amid all this AI exploration, I also made some tracks for our daughter. She’s at that wonderful age where dancing and bouncing around are the highlights of her day. Creating music that makes her giggle and groove has been one of the most rewarding parts of this whole adventure. Plus, it’s a nice balance to the heavier themes of the concept album.

From Music to Manuscripts: What’s Next?

All these escapades got me thinking—if I can make music with AI, could I write a book with it too? I’m no Shakespeare, but maybe, just maybe, with a little help from Copilot, I could put together a story worth reading.

So, I’ve decided to take the plunge. Over the next few months, I’m planning to work on a full-fledged book—or who knows, maybe even a series. It’s a bit daunting, but also incredibly exciting. I’m imagining a collaborative process where AI helps me weave narratives, develop characters, and maybe even toss in a plot twist or two.

And don’t worry, I won’t keep you in the dark. I’m setting up a website where I’ll document the whole journey—the good, the bad, and the utterly confusing. You’ll get to see how the sausage is made, so to speak.

Join Me on This Wild Ride

So, that’s my story—or at least, this chapter of it. If you’re curious to hear the fruits of these AI-fueled labors, I invite you to give Some Kind of Intelligence a listen on Spotify. Whether you’re into thought-provoking concepts about AI, looking for a laugh with the rubber duck song, or just want to dance around like no one’s watching, there’s something in there for you.

And if you’re up for it, I’d love for you to join me as I venture into the world of AI-assisted writing. It’s uncharted territory for me, and having friends along for the journey makes it all the more enjoyable.

Thanks for sticking around and letting me share this whirlwind adventure with you. Who knew that playing around with AI would lead to all this? Life’s funny that way.

Stay tuned, stay curious, and maybe keep an eye on your own rubber ducks—you never know when inspiration might strike!
